R. Nicholas Burns, former under secretary of state for political affairs, delivers the Payne Distinguished Lecture on "national security challenges for the next president" at Stanford's Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies on April 29, 2016.

Burns is a William J. Perry fellow at Stanford's Center for International Security and Cooperation, and a professor of the practice of diplomacy and international relations at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
