Companies are artificial entities created to allow real people to do business. But, unfortunately, there are some types of companies that aren’t engaged in any business at all. Instead, these anonymous companies exist mainly to disguise people doing things they’d rather not have the public know about. Global Witness explains how anonymous companies are used to cover up crime and corruption.

Environment 185A: Sustainable Living is a sub-division of the Education for Sustainable Living Program (ESLP). ESLP is a student designed, student developed, and student facilitated program offered through the Institute of the Environment. The Speaker Series brings guest speakers from UCLA and across the country to speak on specialized subjects including food systems, green business, organic gardens, sustainable living, the green economy, environmental justice and transportation. Speakers range from authors, professors, community activists, environmentalists, for and non-profit business representatives, and government officials.

I will review the application of methods and ideas from physics to natural, social and human sciences.
We will review some paradigms that emerged recently:

"Small World Networks",
"Peer-To-Peer viral propagation",
"Self-Organization",
"Fractals and (Multi-)scaling", etc.
We will present specific applications in: social revolutions dynamics, knowledge hierarchies in the internet, network dynamics of narratives, economic crisis propagation, education and economic growth, wealth distribution, globalization and financial instability, ecological patterns and resilience, emergence of altruism and cooperation, immune system dynamics, visual system signal integration, networks in the brain, emergence of meaning in children scribbles, music therapy, algorithms for creative innovation, innovation diffusion and adoption.
