希臘羅馬文明，可以說西方文學、哲學、宗教、藝術、科學等各領域的發源地。愛琴海的風光、希臘諸島的文明、雅典的巴持農神廟、羅馬的競技場，已為許多旅人心目中的旅遊聖地，而希臘羅馬神話中的許多情節及人物典型，更深深植入世人的日常生活之中，神話裡頭的故事，皆是寓含著相當重要的西洋文學與藝術典故。
本課程幫助學生了解西方文化的重要來源--希臘羅馬神話，學生將熟悉古典神話的典故，透過教師課堂講述賞析作品與影片欣賞感受文學之美，並鼓勵學生積極參與討論和反思，增進學生對學習外國經典的興趣與希臘羅馬神話的專業知識。
