Abstract: How does one classify geometrical objects? This question has br been one of drivers of the development of mathematics for at least fty years. br In the latter half of the period, questions from physics turned the subject br on its head, providing even more fruitful insights. Through some examples, br I hope to give some sense of the fascinating behaviour of these spaces.
