In this lecture/discussion video from my Spring 2013 Introduction to Philosophy class at Marist College, we start our study of Descartes' Discourse on Method, looking at the first three parts of the work, in which he narrates the story of his education, his resolve to acquire experience through travel and observation, and his decision to turn within and study the human mind. We examine his four rules of method, and we also discuss the implications of his "provisional morality"
