Nearly half the planet cooks with wood or cow dung on smoky, open fires. The smoke from these open fires prematurely kills four million people in the developing world each year — more than AIDS, TB, and malaria combined. BioLite, a NY-based startup, designs and manufactures the HomeStove, an ultra-clean, biomass cookstove that reduces smoke by 90%.
