Inflation: A New Universe is Born with Alan Guth | MIT

Almost 14 billion years ago, the universe burst into existence. In the first fleeting fraction of a second it expanded exponentially, stretching far beyond the view of our best telescopes. Alan Guth developed the theory of cosmic inflation to describe the first moments of the universe. He summarized inflation at an event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the Big Bang (via detection of the cosmic microwave background).
